The oldest example of a toothbrush is a wooden stick, soaked at one end and pointed at the other. These "brushes" were made of special woods containing essential oils and known for their disinfectant qualities. The first electric toothbrush was produced in Switzerland in 1954.
Modern toothbrushes are used at least twice a day for proper hygiene, so not only their function and bristles are important, but also their design.
